US import pilot under way
Supporters of US/Canadian pesticide regulatory harmonisation have welcomed the first import into the US of a Canadian product under the pilot own-use import scheme (Agrow No 505, p 13). A farmer in Montana imported the cereal herbicide, Avadex (triallate), from Canada last month after gaining permission from the registrant, Gowan, and the EPA. "Gowan deserves a lot of credit for being the first registrant to allow one of its products to be used in the pilot programme," says North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson.
