Indian Bt cotton area surge

The area of genetically modified insect-resistant Bt cotton in India is expected to increase from the current season's 8.6 million ha to 14-15 million ha in the 2007/08 season starting in October 2007, predicts Indian company Rasi Seeds. The jump will reflect continued improvements in yield coupled with a "moderation" in seed prices, which have settled at Rs 750 ($16)/450 g seed pack, says Rasi Seeds managing director Muthu Ramasami.
