Monsanto fined for glyphosate ads
French authorities have fined Monsanto Euro 15,000 ($19,440) for labelling its herbicide, Roundup (glyphosate), as "biodegradable". A court found the term "misleading" and argued that it would lead users to believe that glyphosate was "natural", Monsanto says. As a result, users might apply it "without any precautions or restrictions", the judge found. The judgement is the first of its kind, Monsanto points out, and adds that it is considering an appeal.
