Argentine GMO (genetically modified organism) adoption strong
The adoption of genetically modified seed in Argentine agriculture remains strong and is growing. Argentina's farmers planted 18.4 million ha of GM crops in the 2006/07 season, up 7.6% on the previous year. The country has the second-largest GM industry after the US, accounting for 18% of the global GM planted area (Agrow No 512, p 13). Almost the entire soybean area in the country was planted with glyphosate-tolerant GM seed in 2006/07, according to the Argentine council for biotechnology information, the Argenbio. The GM share of the cotton area was 80%, while that for maize was 73%.
