EU withdraws five old GMO's

The European Commission is to withdraw approvals for five genetically modified crop lines that are no longer marketed in the EU. The lines are Syngenta's insect-resistant Bt176 maize, Monsanto's glyphosate-tolerant and insect-resistant GA21xMON810 maize, and Bayer CropScience's glufosinate-tolerant Ms1Rf1, Ms1Rf2 and Topas 19/2 oilseed rape. The Commission's proposals were cleared by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health in March and will come into force by the end of April.
