Brazil revised GMO (genetically modified organism) law in force
Brazilian President Lula Ignacio da Silva signed in March legislation to cut the requirements for marketing genetically modified seed. The President's approval means that the national technical commission for biosaftey, the CTNBio, will authorise the commercialisation of GM seed in Brazil if a simple majority of its 27 members vote in favour. Previously, the approval for marketing of GM products required the votes of 18 members. Provisional Measure MP 327 was signed in late March with immediate effect.
