Atrazine levels safe in US water

US monitoring of 128 community water systems (CWS) has shown that levels of the herbicide, atrazine, and its chlorinated degradates do not exceed the EPA's level of concern. The Agency has released the results of monitoring conducted in 2003-05 and plans to issue the 2006 figures later this year. The monitoring was conducted by Syngenta under an agreement with the EPA following the release of an interim re-registration eligibility decision for atrazine in 2003 (Agrow No 418, p 14). The Agency released watershed monitoring data for atrazine earlier this year (Agrow No 513, p 10).
