EU OKs Argentine genetically modified organism checks
The EU Commission's Food and Veterinary Office (FVO) has given Argentina an almost clean bill of health for controls of EU-bound produce containing genetically modified material. Its report concludes that there is a "clearly defined regulatory system in place for the authorisation of GMOs". The system is the basis for preventing the circulation of unauthorised GMOs in food, feed or seed for export, it adds. Non-GM produce for export to the EU is inspected and certified by third-party identity preservation systems, the report finds.
