Argentina bans two maize lines
Argentina has banned the sale of two genetically modified maize lines following their withdrawal in the EU. Resolution 125 prohibits the sale of GM herbicide-tolerant GA21 maize and insect-resistant Bt176 maize. The EU withdrew approvals for Monsanto's GA21xMON810 maize and Syngenta's Bt176 maize in April because they were no longer marketed in the region (Agrow No 517, p 11). EU threshold levels for the adventitious presence of the events were reduced to 0.1%, the Argentine Resolution says. Argentina says that it has taken the decision to safeguard its maize exports.
