India promotes seed treatments
The Indian Ministry of Agriculture is promoting the use of seed treatments on all major crops for the 2007/08 kharif (winter) season. However, it acknowledges that its target of 100% coverage will require a "massive campaign". Currently, 70% of farmers' seed requirements are met with farm-saved seed, all of which is untreated, the government notes. It calls on the agrochemical industry, farmers' groups, co-operatives and NGOs to assist in the campaign.
