Support for EFSA's (European Food Safety Authority) GMO (genetically modified organisms) risk assessment methods:

Regulators and scientists have given their support to the European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA) "case-by-case" approach to environmental risk assessments for genetically modified crops. The EFSA's risk assessment work and the guidance it provides to applicants were discussed at a two-day meeting in Italy in June. The meeting was attended by representatives from the EU, Australia, Brazil, Croatia, Iran, Norway, Switzerland, Turkey and the US. More specific guidance on test design and statistical analysis is needed for assessments of the potential impact of GM crops on non-target organisms, they concluded.
