BASF Germany to limit chloridazon

BASF and chemical company Skyanide have provisionally agreed to collaborate with German authorities to limit the use of the herbicide, chloridazon. The agreement follows a study that found elevated levels of the active ingredient's decomposition product, chloridazon-desphenyl, in ground and drinking water in November last year. Chloridazon-desphenyl has no activity and is "non relevant" under EU agrochemical law, BASF notes. All authorities have confirmed that there are no health risks and that the collaborative action is precautionary, the company adds. Chloridazon was re-evaluated and received extended registration in 2005.
