EU acts to speed up active ingredients review
The European Commission proposes to speed up the EU review of existing active ingredients by reducing the European Food Safety Authority's (EFSA) involvement in the process. A draft regulation issued in July plans to change procedures for ais in the third and fourth round of the review. It would remove the EFSA's role of evaluating draft assessment reports (DARs) produced by rapporteur member states for each ai. Instead, the Commission would only consult the EFSA if the DARs raise doubts that need to be resolved.
