Germany amends genetically modified organisms law

The German government has proposed final amendments to its law on genetically modified organisms and aims to pass it within the next two months. The proposed decree's "highest priorities" remain: the protection of human and animal health; consumers' freedom of choice between GM and conventional products; and the guarantee of co-existence, the government emphasises. The latest amendments have come under fierce criticism from industry stakeholders, such as the German farmers' association, the DBV, and the federal association of plantbreeders, the BDP.
