Australians like genetically modified crops

There has been a dramatic increase in support for genetically modified food crops in Australia. The latest survey by Biotechnology Australia indicates that 73% of about 1,000 people questioned find GM food crops acceptable, compared with 48% of those surveyed in 2005. "Changes in attitudes have been influenced by the public's familiarity with gene technology and a perception that GM crops could be used to counter major environmental concerns," says Australian Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane.
