EU industry supports GMO (genetically modified organism) trade

The European grain, feed and biotechnology industries have urged EU regulatory authorities to take a more practical attitude to imports of genetically modified crops. Action is needed to prevent the low-level presence of EU-unapproved GM material blocking trade in agricultural commodities, they say. The call comes in response to an EU Agriculture Directorate-General study, which warned of difficulties in sourcing EU-approved or GMO-free supplies (Agrow No 523, p 9).
