Brazil generic approvals speed up
Brazil granted 23 generic pesticide registrations for 19 active ingredients under its UN FAO-compliant equivalency system in the first nine months of this year. There were 13 approvals in September alone, covering 11 ais. That compares to seven registrations, covering five ais, in the whole of 2006, and just two in 2005 (Agrow passim). The industry had anticipated a rise in the frequency of approvals. The President's Ministry, the Casa Civil, informally promised industry early this year more frequent registrations through the system from August. It indicated that there would be up to 15 approvals per month (Agrow No 516, p 14).
