MEP vote threatens agrochemicals

A European Parliament vote in October to tighten up EU pesticide rules would inflict "serious damage" on Europe's food and farming industry if it becomes law, warns the European Crop Protection Association (ECPA). The MEPs' vote to support proposals to ban active ingredients based on hazard criteria would lead to widespread product losses, the ECPA adds. Nevetheless, a more positive vote for the industry was the Parliament's rejection of another contentious proposal to impose quantitative cuts in EU-wide pesticide use.
