Indian genetically modified crop dispute resumes

The Indian Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) cleared further field trials on genetically modified crops at its meeting in October, despite being the subject of a new lawsuit from environmentalist and consumer activists. The campaigners have submitted a petition for contempt of court against the Committee after it approved large-scale field trials on GM aubergines in August (Agrow No 526, p 19).
