Syngenta Brazil genetically modified tests illegal

A Brazilian federal judge has ruled Syngenta's operations in an area close to a national park to be illegal, the regional government of Parana's news agency reports. Syngenta carried out field trials on genetically modified crops within the Iguacu national park's protected perimeter. The judge ruled that as the park possessed a -management plan" that defined a buffer zone of 10 km, the company could not recommence GM crop trials there. A fine of R$1 million ($560,000) from the Brazilian environmental institute, the Ibama, was upheld as part of the judgement.
