EU urged to relax controls on GMO imports

The EU faces animal feed shortages if it continues with its policy to return imports that contain low levels of non EU-approved genetically modified crops. Exporters may decide to only deal with "preferred buyers" that do not create extra costs by rejecting shipments, warns a report by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC). Such a move would leave EU livestock farmers with few suppliers of cheap feed, it adds.
