India allows more stacked trait cotton and maize trials

The Indian Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) has approved more field trials of genetically modified stacked trait cotton and maize. Approvals have been given to: Monsanto’s Indian joint venture partner Mahyco for trials on stacked BollgardII/Roundup Ready Flex cotton hybrids containing insect-resistant cry1Ac and cry2Ab toxins (MON15985 event) and glyphosate-tolerant CP4EPSPS gene (MON88913 event); Monsanto India for conducting trials on two stacked maize hybrids containing insect-resistant cry1A.105 and cry2Ab2 toxins (MON 89034) and glyphosate-tolerant NK603; and Pioneer India for trials on Dow AgroSciences’ and DuPont seed subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International’s mixed trait TC 1507xNK603 maize expressing the insect-resistant cry1F toxin (TC 1507 event) and glyphosate-tolerant NK 603.
