US imidacloprid review attracts bee concerns
The US EPA received more than 12,000 comments on its preliminary work plan for the registration review of the neonicotinoid insecticide, imidacloprid. The majority resulted from a campaign by the environmentalist group, the Natural Resources Defense Council, voicing concerns over the risks of imidacloprid to bees. The Agency believes that the comments do not change the data requirements or schedule laid down in the preliminary plan ( Agrow No 559, p 14). The final plan retains the expected completion date of 2014. A data call-in is due to be issued in the first quarter of 2010.
