EU Court rules Poland's GMO law illegal
The EU Court of Justice has ruled that Poland's 2006 law on genetically modified organisms does not comply with EU legislation. The Court found that the country's prohibition on marketing any GM seed, including EU-approved seed, conflicts with certain provisions in the EU GMO registration Directive (2001/18). However, it rejected the European Commission's claim that Poland had failed to fulfil its obligations under Directive 2001/18 "in its entirety". As a result, the Court ordered Poland to pay only two-thirds of the Commission's costs.
