American Vanguard warns of Q2 sales decline
US agrochemical company American Vanguard (Los Angeles, California) will report a decline in second-quarter sales and earnings will be near “break even” for the three months ended June 30th 2009. Sales were impacted by poor weather during the Mid-West US maize planting season, the company says. Grower purchases of agrochemicals were delayed or reduced and distributors adopted “buy only-as-needed” purchasing practices, it adds. Earnings were depressed by the start-up costs of a new manufacturing process and the scaling back of production for inventory management purposes. The company will present its second-quarter results on August 6th.
