Brazil agchem container recycling up again
Brazil increased its recycling and disposal of empty pesticide containers by 17.3% in the first half of 2009, according to the container recycling organisation, the Inpev. It collected 14,161 tonnes of such packaging. Brazil recycled or disposed of 24,400 tonnes in 2008, representing 80% of all containers and 94% of plastic ones ( Agrow No 566, p 20). That placed it as the world’s major recycler, a position it still claims. Innovations in Brazil this year include taking recycling on tour ( Agrow No 565, p 22), and making new pesticide containers from old using three layers, with the recycled element sandwiched between two virgin layers ( Agrow No 570, p 16).
