Brazil to hire codling moth monitoring company
The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture is to contract a company to monitor the appearance of codling moths ( Cydia pomonella) next season in apple-growing areas. It is part of the Ministry’s “national Cydia pomonella eradication programme”. The monitoring will include the use of 6,000 traps. The Ministry aims to eradicate the pest by 2011. The Ministry is considering the adoption of a safe corridor for the entry of fruit from Argentina, it says.
