Syngenta to buy Monsanto's sunflower business
Syngenta has agreed to acquire Monsanto’s global sunflower seed business for $160 million. The deal includes germplasm and the development and breeding of hybrid sunflower seed. The business recorded sales of $75 million in fiscal 2008. The acquisition will strengthen Syngenta’s position in the sunflower seed business in Europe and Latin America, which are key regions for the crop, the company points out. Syngenta claims to be the global leader in sunflower seed, with sales of more than $200 million in 2008.
