No reprieve in US pesticide permit case

The US industry association, CropLife America (CLA), is disappointed over the denial of its petition for a rehearing of a court case that requires millions of pesticide applicators to obtain permits under the Clean Water Act (CWA). The industry group called for the rehearing following the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit’s ruling that residual and excess pesticides in water constitute “point sources” and that discharges require a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit ( Agrow No 565, p 18).
