EFSA to consider views on MON810 clearance

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is to review objections from environmentalist groups about the Authority's support for the re-registration of Monsanto's genetically modified MON810 maize. The EFSA recently gave scientific clearance to Monsanto's application to renew the EU approval for cultivation and use in food and feed of the insect-resistant maize line ( Agrow No 571, p 13). However, in view of a report issued by Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth (FoE), the EFSA has decided to invite stakeholders to a meeting in September for a "scientific discussion" on its opinion on MON810.
