Monsanto to mine more glyphosate material
Monsanto’s US phosphorus mining subsidiary, P4 Production (Soda Springs, Idaho), is seeking to open a new site to increase production of the raw material for Monsanto’s herbicide, Roundup (glyphosate). The US Bureau of Land Management has issued a draft environmental impact statement for the 739 acre (299 ha) site. It proposes several options for minimising the release of selenium from the mining operations. Phosphorus has been mined and processed in the area since the 1950s.
