Paraguay grants Monsanto new GM soybean trials
Paraguay has granted approval for field trials of Monsanto’s genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant and insect-resistant Bt Roundup Ready 2 Yield soybeans, the company says. Monsanto has also submitted an approval application in Brazil for the second-generation glyphosate-tolerant product ( Agrow No 571, p 23). It would become the first GM insect-resistant soybean product, Monsanto says. It was developed specifically for Latin American markets. Commercialisation of the seed in the two countries should come in the “first half of the next decade”, the company says. It has submitted applications in the US among other countries.
