Marrone teams with Scripps for marine biopesticides
The US biopesticide company, Marrone Bio Innovations (MBI - Davis, California), has agreed to collaborate with the US Scripps Institution of Oceanography (San Diego, California), to search for deep sea micro-organisms with potential use in crop protection. The Institution has discovered a new genus of marine micro-organisms that could have applications against weeds, pests and diseases, MBI points out. The company sees potential in the diversity and biological properties of such organisms. It is developing a marine micro-organism discovered by DuPont and the Spanish company, Instituto Biomar (Leon), for use as a rice herbicide.
