Bayer/Precision Bio gene technology transfer deal

Bayer CropScience is to gain non-exclusive access to parts of the proprietary novel trait development technology of US biotechnology company Precision BioSciences (Research Triangle Park, North Carolina). The companies aim to create site-specific genome modifications in plants, using Precision’s Directed Nuclease Editor (DNE) technology. It uses “advanced protein engineering methods to produce rationally-designed, obligate heterodimer endonucleases”. Researchers can use DNE to insert multiple genes at a single site within a plant chromosome, precisely inputting traits. DNE can “streamline trait development and breeding process and … accelerate a trait’s time to market”, the companies add.
