Tianmen Agrochemical closes paraquat plant
Chinese agrochemical company Hubei Sanonda Tianmen Agrochemical closed its paraquat herbicide production line in Zaoshizhen, Hubei province, at the end of last month. Residents of Zaoshizhen had made repeated claims that waste gas and water from the plant had an adverse effect on the local environment. In early August, the Tianmen municipal government ordered the company to reduce its emissions to acceptable standards by August 31st. Tianmen Agrochemical, lacking the funds to update and modernise its production facilities, decided to close down its paraquat production line. Tianmen Agrochemical is a subsidiary of Hubei Sanonda, the majority shareholder of which is the state-owned ChemChina Agchem.
