BASF wins Brazil injunction on fipronil patent
BASF has been granted an injunction against the Brazilian pesticide company, Insetimax (Sao Paulo), for patent infringement. The 12th Civil Court of Sao Paulo has banned Insetimax from selling any product based on the insecticide, fipronil. It gave the order in July. The ruling halts Insetimax’s marketing of its insecticide product, Bioinsect 25. BASF has identified several products marketed in Brazil that are based on the active ingredient, and started several legal actions against companies for infringing its patent, it says. It won an injunction last year against another Brazilian company for use of the same ai in another insecticide product ( Agrow No 539, p 2). BASF markets fipronil-based products, such as Regent 800 and Standak, in Brazil.
