EFSA to discuss MON810 clearance
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has confirmed that it is to meet environmentalist groups in October to discuss its latest safety clearance of Monsanto's genetically modified MON810 maize. The meeting is in response to objections received from the groups earlier this year ( Agrow No 574, p 15). Monsanto is applying to renew the EU approval for cultivation and used in food and feed of the insect-resistant maize line. The meeting will also discuss Bayer CropScience's glufosinate-tolerant rice, LLRice62, which received import clearance from the EFSA in 2007 ( Agrow No 533, p 10).
