Danish Minister calls for end of GMO zero tolerance on imports

Tardiness and a policy of zero tolerance towards genetically modified crops are damaging to food supplies in the EU, says the Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Eva Kjer Hansen. Her admonition comes in the context of a recent European Commission warning that there will soon be a lack of soybean and maize crops for use as food and feed. A poor harvest in South America has led to a lower supply of those crops. The Minister has called upon the Commission to propose a solution, pointing out that there are no health-related arguments to support the zero-tolerance policy.
