India moves to remove GMO contamination protocol for field trials

The Indian Genetic Engineering Approval Committee (GEAC) is considering dispensing with the requirement for a validated event-specific test protocol of 0.01% LOD (limit of detection) for the detection of genetically modified organisms before bringing out GMOs from a greenhouse for field trials. The protocol is meant to confirm the absence of any contamination and was put in place following an order from the Supreme Court in May 2007 ( Agrow No 520, p 17).
