EU study progresses on GM food rules
Questionnaires were issued to EU member states in September seeking their views on current EU legislation on genetically modified food and feed. The survey is being carried out for the European Commission's Health and Consumers Directorate General. A draft report is expected in March 2010, with the final report due in May 2010. Among the issues to be covered will be the slow EU approval process and the "zero tolerance" policy on non-EU-approved GM material in imported commodities. Such factors are being blamed for feed supply problems ( Agrow No 576, p 11).
