Experience is key for EU GM crop assessment

The EU risk assessment process for genetically modified crops should take more account of existing experiences of the safe use of GM crops in Europe and worldwide, says Willy De Greef of the European biotechnology industry association, EuropaBio. The current assessment process does not have a place for experience of safe use, and there is "no interest" in the post-release monitoring already done, he told a conference held by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) in September.
