Fengshan's nicosulfuron OK'd in China
Chinese agrochemical company Jiangsu Fengshan Group’s version of the sulfonylurea herbicide, nicosulfuron, has passed a pesticide quality inspection by the Jiangsu province quality supervision and inspection station. It has an active ingredient content of over 97%, and a yield of over 60%. The Yancheng technological administration office, a local government body, claims that the development heralds a “new age” for the application of herbicides on dryland maize fields in China. There are some seven companies in China engaged in the manufacture of nicosulfuron, with a combined capacity of 2,000 tonnes/year, and 1,000-1,500 tonnes is exported every year ( Agrow No 570, p 21). Nicosulfuron registrations have increased in China this year as manufacturing costs have fallen ( Agrow ibid).
