Brazil provisionally OKs three more GMOs
Brazil has provisionally authorised another three genetically modified crops for marketing. The national technical commission for biosafety, the CTNBio, has approved the sale of one GM cotton and two maize lines. They are: Monsanto’s insect-resistant and glyphosate-tolerant MON531xMON1445 cotton; its insect-resistant MON89034 maize; and Dow AgroSciences’ insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant TC1507xNK603 maize. The authorisations require ratification by the Ministry of Agriculture through the 11-Ministry national biosafety council, the CNBS. It should issue its decision within 60 days.
