Western Australia highlights GM canola
The Western Australian Department of Agriculture has held an information session on genetically modified herbicide-tolerant canola this month. Interest in the technology has been spurred by the decision to allow limited trials of GM canola this year ( Agrow No 559, p 16), the Department points out. GM canola has been planted on over 41,000 ha in Victoria and New South Wales this year. Those states allowed commercial cultivation of GM canola for the first time in 2008 after extended moratoriums on the technology ( Agrow No 540, p 19).
