Mexico approves half GM maize trial requests
Mexico has approved almost half of the applications for field trials of genetically modified maize. The Ministry of Agriculture granted nine approvals to Monsanto and six to joint applications from Dow AgroSciences and DuPont subsidiary Pioneer Hi-Bred International. The news follows the Ministries of Agriculture, the Sagarpa, and the Environment, the Semarnat, announcing that the first two approvals had been granted ( Agrow No 578, p 18). The 15 approvals made in late October included those. The authorisations end an 11-year moratorium, Monsanto says.
