Australasia assesses MON87701 soybeans
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has begun reviewing an application from Monsanto to approve food derived from its genetically modified insect-resistant MON87701 soybeans. The soybeans contain the Bt Cry1Ac toxin for the control of lepidopteran pests. Monsanto is developing insect-resistant soybeans specifically for Latin American markets ( Agrow passim). FSANZ expects to complete its assessment by late February 2010.
