Agchem production up in Chinese province

Agrochemical production rose by 7.9% in the Chinese province of Zhejiang in the first nine months of 2009 compared with the corresponding period from last year. It manufactured a total of 299,212 tonnes of agrochemical active ingredients, according to the Zhejiang Agrochemical Industry Association. Despite this growth, agrochemical companies in the province saw a drop of over 80% in profits compared with the same period last year. Zhejiang was China's largest exporter of herbicides in the second quarter this year, exporting 34,000 tonnes during the period ( Agrow No 574, p 25).
