Brazil to cancel trichlorfon registrations
The Brazilian Ministry of the Environment, the Ibama, has called for the cancellation of approvals for the insecticide/acaricide, trichlorfon. The re-evaluation of the active ingredient could not be concluded due to insufficient data after registrants declined to provide studies to support continued registrations, it says. The Ibama is carrying out environmental re-evaluations of pesticides under a regulation issued in June this year, normative instruction IBAMA 17. This is separate from ongoing re-evaluations from the Ministry of Health into 14 pesticide ais, including trichlorfon ( Agrow No 575, p 23). The Ministry of Agriculture has yet to decide on the move, an industry source told Agrow.
