Turkish regulation bans GMO imports

Turkey is to block imports of genetically modified food and feed, the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) reports. The Ministry of Agriculture issued a regulation in October impeding the import of all such produce effective immediately. The move “effectively blocks all imports of food and feed that might contain genetically engineered material, pending approval by an as-yet non-existent committee”, the FAS says. The regulation stipulates that food or feed with a GMO content of more than 0.9% is regarded as a GMO product.
