Monsanto buys US research site from Pfizer
Monsanto has acquired US pharmaceutical company Pfizer’s Chesterfield Village Research Center (Chesterfield, Missouri), for $435 million. The 1.3 million sq ft (120,770 m 2) facility includes some 250 laboratories, 122 plant growth chambers and 2 acres (0.8 ha) of greenhouses. More than 400 Monsanto employees and contractors already work at the site, where Monsanto had a lease for over 400,000 sq ft. Monsanto leased the space from Pharmacia after it was spun off from the business in 2002 ( Agrow No 407, p 2). Pfizer, which acquired Pharmacia in 2003, will continue to operate at the site under the new arrangements.
